Despite Covid-19 having an impact on Layups 4 Life’s 2021 fundraising efforts, through core events such as their annual golf outing, virtual 5K and 3v3 charity basketball tournament, they still raised over $10,000 through December.  Funds raised will continue to support cancer research and clinical trials at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. “Our supporters and donors are critical to our success”, said L4L CEO Dan Exter. “What is really flattering is seeming the same people come out, bring their friends and get involved in multiple events we host.” Layups 4 Life’s 2021 charity golf outing, raised over $6,000, their charity basketball tournament, which is L4L’s most popular event, raised over $2,500 and their most recently added event, a virtual 5K, raised over $400. “Our virtual 5K is a result of the pandemic and us getting creative”, said Exter. My wife (Dana) and I were trying to think of creative ways that were “socially distant”, had some element of fitness and where we could make it where anyone, anywhere could participate and that is how we came up with the Virtual 5K.” Other events that Layups 4 Life host are a charity workout class (which historically is run around the Super Bowl), a March Madness bracket pool and also partners with local New Jersey high school booster club programs. There is still intent to host and collaborate for additional fundraising events but looking into 2022 their charity golf outing, virtual 5K and 3v3 basketball tournament will be their primary fundraising events.
